About Sasha
My name is Sasha and I suffer with alopecia. From a young age I've had my hair relaxed but I decided that after trying many different things to combat my alopecia, going natural was my last resort.
I have been natural for 8yrs now but have always wore a weave or a wig to conceal my alopecia. Whenever I did wear my natural hair people would comment that I looked better with weave. I remember a time when I came to work with my natural hair and my manager said that I didn't look like my usual self and would prefer if I came the way I usually looked. I felt away and shied away from wearing my natural hair because clearly people addressed me differently.
In 2019 I decided that I wanted to embrace my afro and alopecia. I got brave and walked out the house revealing it all. I felt liberated. Coincidentally I stumbled across Project Embrace and decided that this would be an inspirational step to many black women who are in the same position.
“Being a part of Project Embrace was liberating as it took me way out of my comfort zone. It allowed me to see that limiting myself was no longer an option and I felt like I got my power back. To be amongst such powerful black women was also inspiring because it brought me back to a space where embracing our identity was crucial.”

To be showcased on the billboards was sensational especially as a black woman. To be featured in this campaign was so empowering. It allowed me to show other black women as well as my children that fighting your fears is a big achievement.
